Super Honeymoon Ideas for Budget Honeymooners

Planning a honeymoon can be as exciting as planning a wedding! A few lucky couples are given a honeymoon package as their wedding present. Some others have the financial means to travel to a romantic honeymoon destination of their choice. For most of us, the all inclusive Hawaii or Jamaica trip is out of reach when we are working with a budget.

Well here’s some good news for budget honeymooners. There are plenty of honeymoon ideas available for you. Below is a list of these honeymoon ideas you should think about when planning your honeymoon package, which at the end allows you to enjoy a romantic holiday with your life partner.

Plan Your Honeymoon Early On
When you make the wedding budget do not forget to set aside an amount for the honeymoon. This way you have a ‘honeymoon package fund’ in case you don’t get an all expenses paid honeymoon package to Bahamas.

Staying in the Country
Planning a trip overseas will cost you a substantial amount of money. The cost for the airplane ticket itself will put a dent in your finances. If you set your mind to stay in your own country, and I am sure you can find beautiful places, you will have a better chance of honeymoon on a budget.

Take Your Honeymoon to the Road
Think of choosing a honeymoon destination that you can drive to? It could be fun. If you live in a place where you have easy access (eg. Canadian or Mexican border) you can just take a road trip without breaking your bank account. But if you do decide to plan a distant honeymoon destination, make sure you check out the airfares because there is a good chance you will be able to find a deal. CheapOAir has good air ticket deals.

Outdoor Honeymoon Ideas
No matter where you live, you are bound to find National Parks. In United States, there is literally hundreds of parks and forests. You can make your honeymoon destination to be a beautiful park during the months where the weather is pleasant. This way you can consider a camping holiday, which is a great honeymoon idea. OK, just imagine…alone together in the wildness… no one around for miles and miles…Just a note to remember, make sure your camping destinations meet your needs (eg. running water) before you plan the trip.

Check out the National Park Service at www.nps.gov for more details on parks.

Honeymoon in Islands
Island Honeymoons
There are some islands that are reasonably priced for your budget. Here are some suggestions for couples:

  • Cottages and bed & breakfasts dot the coastline of North Carolina’s Outer Banks
  • The barrier islands off the coast of Georgia and Alabama such as the Golden Isles
  • The Florida Keys
  • California’s Catalina Island with its old fashioned hotels

Try Your Luck
Auctions are a great way and a new trend to land yourself a wonderful honeymoon package. No, there is no guarantee that you’ll get the trip of your choice but maybe you’ll be leaving on the honeymoon of your dreams.

Talk to Some Romantic Souls
There is a chance that you might know someone who has a vacation home by the beach, cottage by the lake or a condo in the mountains. If they are good and close friends, they may be willing to rent you their place or even better – loan it to you for a honeymoon getaway.

‘Register’ for Your Honeymoon
You can always let your family and friends know they have the option of contributing to a fund for your honeymoon. In lieu of a wedding gift, they can be a part of the trip that you will both remember for a lifetime. If you decide to do this, assign it to a bridesmaid/groomsman. This way you have less work, and awkwardness is lessened.

Go Flying
Along similar lines, you may have people in your family who travel extensively for their jobs. Often such people will have accumulated thousands of frequent flier miles that can be used to acquire tickets for family members. If you find someone willing to share their miles with you, be sure to check with the airline first to determine the rules for such transfers. The airline policies vary widely. Some even allow friends to share their miles.

Postpone?
If you decide to get married during the ‘wedding season’, which is May through September, it is a high time for vacations so the cost is high as well. If you want to save a few dollars and use that to have a better honeymoon later, why not postpone it? After all, the resort rates drop dramatically after the summer months. This is the best time to take your romantic trip. What’s even better is that you could easily find yourself alone with less crowd on a beach with undivided attention of the hotel staff! Now that is something to think about.

Last But Not Least
No matter where you decide to honeymoon, a five start all inclusive hotel or a camping trip, be sure to mention that you just tied the knot… you know what this does? It will send the service providers into overdrive…I’m talking a bottle of champagne delivered to your room….upgrades on flights…hotel suite instead of a standard room etc. These acts of kindness would definitely make your honeymoon even better!

So as you can see, you can have that special honeymoon, if you just plan ahead. There will be beautiful memories made that will last for a lifetime. Do you have any honeymoon ideas? Don’t forget to share below on comments section.

    Hi Shamis,

I just wanted to say I love your site. This is a PERFECT blog in my humble opinion.

You are spot on about getting married in the Florida Keys. I did this ten years ago, fell in love with the place, and now have my own site on the subject of the Keys.

If I had one recommendation it would be experience the Keys by all counts, enjoy Key West (it is fun but very touristy), but stay at the Islander Resort in Islamorada for your honeymoon. This is really well priced, offers you all the luxury you would expect for a honeymoon. But best of all the staff dont just go overboard to make your stay memorable, but they kill themselves to make your stay just what a honeymoon should be.

You can spend a lot more money on accomodation, but I would save the cash, so that I could go made on the diving, dolphin swimms and if the new wife allows – killer fishing.

Oh yeah, and my other tip is although you can fly direct to Key West International or Marathon Airports, I allows fly to Miami or Ft Lauderdale so that I can drive across US 1 (Overseas Highway). This is a drive that you wont forget.

Thanks for letting me comment, and once again great site
