As a kid, I have seen different kinds of dragonflies and been fascinated about it. It turns out there are over 5,000 species of dragonflies around the world. These carefree little flying things have strong transparent wings, large multifaceted eyes and an elongated body. You might be surprised to know that dragonflies have a maximum speed of 10 – 15 meters per second. That is a mere 22 – 34 miles per hour. Their average cruising speed is about 4.5 meters per second, which is about 10 miles per hour. Here is a picture of a beautiful pink dragonfly I captured on my lens while on a trip to a lake.
