Meet the new bellhop boy or should I say the luggage robot named Yobot in Hotel Yotel New York. This is the first time guests will be greeted by a high-tech robot at the guests counter. This 15 foot Yobot can be seen at the Lobby of Hotel Yotel New York that was opened on June 1st, 2011 in Times Square NYC. It calls itself the ‘iPod of the hotel industry.’ No arguing there when this sleek New York Times Square hotel is flourished with touch screen check-in, purple mood-lighting, flat panel TV’s, futon like sofas that transforms into lie-fat beds at the touch of a button and of course the Yobot! Surprisingly enough, Yotel New York aims to provide a trendy stay at luxury NYC at an affordable price.

Hotel Yotel opened its first airport hotels back in 2007 at Heathrow and Gatwick. Following that they opened Yotel Amsterdam’s Schiphol in 2008. New York Yotel Hotel is their first city hotel and also the first Yotel outside Europe. The hotel chain aims to combine the luxury elements of first-class air travel with the concept of tiny Japanese capsule hotels. The result is a unique, stylish and high-tech accommodation.
The star of this New York hotel – Yobot, can pick up your luggage with its robotic arm and put it in one of 133 storage lockers in the Lobby before you check-in. Then you get a bar coded ticket, which you put into the system when you are ready for Yobot to fetch your luggage. Don’t worry if you are not tech-savvy. Friendly hotel staff is standing by to bridge any technological barriers. When you are ready to check-out at 11:00 am, the luggage robot can get your bags for you…and no, you don’t have to tip the Yobot. However, luggage lugging does cost $2 a bag. Then again, it’s not everywhere you can get ultra trendy hotel photos to show your friends back home.
Hotel Yotel New York is located at 570 10th Avenue at 42nd Street, Manhattan. Introductory rates start at $149, which is expected to increase to $200-$250 after August.
