Social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn are so popular, a great percentage of us use it at least few times each week. These social networks allow us to share information and travel photos with family, friends, coworkers and other acquaintances. To add to that, we have mobile device apps that can translate text with camera phone or pinpoint our location on a map. This way, everyone in our network can know where we are.

How about if you want to connect with fellow travelers who will be at the same budget accommodation spot or youth hostel as you are? If that interest you, there is a travel service that makes it real. The company behind this idea is GoMio.com. It is an online booking portal for youth hostels and budget accommodation. They have hostels across the world, mainly in Europe including London, Paris, Berlin, Roma, Barcelona and Amsterdam.
TravAmigos is a virtual space, quite similar to other social networks, where you could meet your hostel-mates even before you check-in. It is dedicated to bringing people from around the globe together by their desire to see new sights, meet new people and experience new things.
All you have to do is make a reservation on GoMio.com – in any hostel, anywhere in the world. Then you can sign-in using Facebook Connect, even before you star packing your carry-on. You can see who else will be there in the hostel with you, if they have joined TravAmigos as well. You can then contact them by sending a message or friend request. For anyone who is concerned about privacy, this service will only show information made public on Facebook.
Personally I think this service can help travelers to get acquainted with fellow travelers from around the world. If for nothing at all, at least to find a hostel-mate who speak the same language as you are. Would you use this service to book a youth hostel and connect with others travelers who would come to that same hostel? Share your thoughts.
