What a fun story! You’re right – Phuket does have many hotels with pool-access rooms. When we were in Phuket, we stayed at the Sheraton Grand Laguna, now the Angsana Laguna Phuket – you can dive right into the resort’s serpentine pool from your private veranda off your pools-side room.

Is this a dream? All you need is reasonable hotel service and infrastructure as well as favorable climate. Why more hotels are not built with such luxury? I love to spend sometime in one of them, specially in Holiday Inn Resort Phuket Mai Khao Beach!
